Darrell Thompson
Darrell Thompson, 74 of Trophy Club, Texas, beloved husband, father, and grandfather left us on July 12, 2023, in Juneau, Alaska to join his heavenly Father. Those who loved Darrell will remember him most for his steadfast devotion to God, his unwavering love for his family, and his humble service to others. Marked by Godly wisdom, Darrell lived his faith by his actions, always led by example, and was a mentor to many. Darrell loved attending sporting events, especially those of his precious grandchildren and was always their biggest fan.
Lawrence Darrell Thompson was born in Lockwood, Missouri on February 18, 1949, to Opal and Lawrence Thompson. Darrell graduated as valedictorian of Lockwood High School in 1967. After high school, Darrell attended college at Missouri University of Science and Technology where he obtained a degree in Civil Engineering. He also served in the Army Corp of Engineers and Army National Guard for six years. His first job after graduating college was with the State of Missouri Highway Department where he worked for 15 years before accepting a position at Greiner Inc. and relocating to Texas in 1985. His career path led him to Carter Burgess and eventually Jacobs where he was the Transportation Operations Manager. After 45 years, Darrell retired but is best remembered as a role model who saw potential in others and developed strong leaders.
Darrell married his high school sweetheart and soulmate, Brenda Rush on July 26, 1970. They spent 53 happy years together raising their family, travelling the world, and golfing as much as possible. Darrell was a member of Compass Christian Church in Colleyville for nearly 38 years. He served in many capacities there including that of Elder and most recently volunteering in Children's Ministry checking in new families. He was always quick to volunteer to serve and generous with his time and resources with his church, his family, and his friends.
Darrell is survived by his wife Brenda, son Matthew Thompson and wife Shannon, and their sons, Brett, Ryker, and Sebastian; son Kevin Thompson and wife Megan, and their children, Ethan, Katelyn, and Griffin; a brother, Sherman Thompson, and wife, Cecelia; a sister, Patsy Lipscomb; sisters-in-law Becky Dobbs and husband Joe, Belinda Stogsdill and husband Gregg, and Beleta Pierce. He is also survived by many treasured nieces and nephews.
Darrell is predeceased by his parents and mother and father-in-law, Richard and Louise Rush and two brothers-in-law: Gary Lipscomb and Stan Pierce.
A Celebration of Darrell’s Life will be held on Saturday, July 29, at 2:00pm at Compass Christian Church in Colleyville, Texas. A come and go dessert reception will follow from 3-5pm.
