James Alvin Gardner Jr., 95, of Walnut Grove, passed away, on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Jim, the son of James Alvin and Lyila (Eusler) Gardner Sr., was born in Mt. Vernon, Missouri, on April 26, 1930.
Jim married Vera McClane on August 29, 1954, enjoying over 64 years together, before Vera’s passing in 2019.
Jim was a lifelong area resident. He faithfully served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Jim was self-employed truck driver for over 26 years and enjoyed his job.
Upon retirement, Jim and Vera took their RV around the United States, including trips to Canada and Mexico. He loved to travel and had even been able to go on the Honor Flight.
When he wasn’t off seeing the country, Jim could be found outdoors with a fishing pole in his hand. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vera Gardner; son, Daniel Gardner; and brother, Billy Gene Gardner.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Deborah Edie and husband, Mansel; grandchildren: Kenneth Gardner and wife, Shelly; Michael Cooksey; Michelle Inglett and husband, Scott; Quintin Edie; Joe Kay; great grandchildren: Hunter Gardner, Tyler Inglett (Brooklyn), Alyssa Taylor (Jesse), Alec Inglett (Kaylee); six great-great grandchild; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and many friends.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home, Walnut Grove. Memorial graveside services will be 11 a.m., Friday, May 22, 2026, at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Jim’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and may be left at the funeral home.
