Tom Hobbs

January 14, 2026

Born on August 6, 1942 in Torrance, California to Clarence (CB) and Marian Hobbs, Tom grew up in both Southern California and San Jose, California, where he graduated from Lincoln High School in 1960. After an initial attempt at college, Tom joined the U.S. Navy in 1961 where he served in both the Philippines and in Vietnam. Following his time in the U.S. Navy, Tom graduated from USC in 1968 with a degree in Business Administration, and went on to become a Certified Public Accountant.
After nearly 20 years of hard work as a CPA, Tom went to graduate school at SJSU to study and nearly earn an MA in History, focusing on British maritime history in the Pacific Northwest.
In 1989, Tom moved to Greenfield, Missouri to pursue his hobby in Hobbs family genealogy. This hobby led Tom to become actively involved in the Greenfield community, ranging from substitute teaching at Greenfield High School, to being president of the Dade County Genealogical Society, and becoming a leading patron of the Dade County Library.
After 32 years in Missouri, Tom moved to Dayton, Nevada, in 2021 to live out his life with his eldest daughter and her family.
Tom is survived by his siblings: Peggy Waite, Jim Hobbs, and Tim Hobbs, along with their spouses, children, and grandchildren; his two daughters: Stephanie Fitch and Stacey Petersen, along with their spouses, children, and grandchildren. He is also survived by many step-children and step-grandchildren, including (but not all): Anne Bierman, Chris Julian, and Cheyenne Bierman.
Last, Tom is also survived by two ex-wives, Carol Sarver and Jean Perry. He now joins his third wife, Deanne Julian Hobbs in death.
Thomas Benton Hobbs, 83, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2025 after a long life, filled with family, adventure and hard work.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held Friday, February 27, 2026 at 11a.m. at Walton’s Chapel of the Valley in Carson City, Nevada, followed by an Honor Guard ceremony and burial at 12:15 p.m. at Lone Mountain Cemetery, also in Carson City, Nevada.
The celebration will continue at the home of Stephanie and Ward Fitch in Dayton, Nevada, following his internment, the Honor Guard ceremony and burial.
In lieu of flowers, please kindly donate to the Dade County Library, or Dade County Genealogical Society in Tom’s memory.
