David Lewis Erwin, 73, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away October 25, 2024, in his home with family by his side.
David was born November 20, 1950, in Springfield, Missouri, to Louie and Fannie (Cossins) Erwin. As a child he loved playing with his dog, Jill and riding his horse, Buck.
In 1971, David married Karen Lockmiller and moved to Rolla, Missouri, to pursue his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. He graduated the University of Missouri- Rolla with honors in 1973 and went to work for the Missouri State Highway and Transportation Department where he made many close friends.
In the early days, David rode motorcycles and raced Corvettes. Many weekends were spent at the track and many trophies were won.
Later in life he returned to his love of horses. As owner of KD Ranch, he bred foundation quarter horses and enjoyed trail riding on his favorite horse, Buddy especially in the mountains of Westcliffe, Colorado.
David is survived by his wife, Karen, of the home; daughters: Stephanie Thomas and Bethanie (Matt) Kennicott; grandsons: Michael and Cooper; one sister, Rosemary Hancock; nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Louie and Fannie Erwin.
David will be remembered for his work ethic and love for horses.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m., Thursday, October 31, 2024, at Morrisville Cemetery, Morrisville, Missouri.
