Larry Joseph Schenewerk

July 10, 2024

Larry Joseph Schenewerk, 79, of St. Martins, Missouri passed away Friday, June 28, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born October 1, 1944 in Jefferson City, son of the late Oscar and Josephine (Wekamp) Schenewerk.

Larry attended St. Martin’s Elementary and was a graduate of Helias High School where he was co-captain of the varsity football team. He would go on to graduate from Lincoln University in 1969 (He would often remind his kids of this as he offered his advice or quoted a fact.) He served with the 735th battalion of the Missouri National Guard for seven years in Jefferson City.

Larry would run several businesses for his brother Jake under Mid State Industries (Mid State Oil, Derby Gas Stations, Mid State Lanes, and Mid State Vending to name a few). He was a pilot and would fly across the state for work in his early years.

He also owned several successful businesses on his own including LJ Oil in Holden, Missouri and California Ford Mercury in California, Missouri. He served with the Missouri Auto Dealers Association and National Auto Dealers Association. He served his community and church with pride.

He was also a member of the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association.

He was a hard working, dedicated, and very well respected businessman. He never knew a stranger. He had a very strong Catholic Faith and belief in God. He enjoyed farming, watching and playing sports (played competitive softball and won quite often), also enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids play sports, raising his cattle, and fox-trotting horses. Most of all, Larry enjoyed spending time with his family, often just being in the room while his kids were talking loudly and laughing is what he treasured the most.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela; children, Michelle Claypool (Jeff), Melissa Cox (Brian), Kelly Schenewerk (Stephanie), Korey Schenewerk (Timothy), Courtney Schlup (Lance), Cheyenne Schnelle (Blake), Jolene Fahrner (Dan); grandchildren, Clinton Bond (Emma), Zachary Bond (Olivia), Kylie Claypool, Mitchell Cox (Autumn), Logan Cox (Jennifer), Chloe Schenewerk, Ryann, Schenewerk, Bode Schenewerk, Paige Schlup, Cash Schlup, Everlee Schnelle, Breck Schnelle, Heintz Fahrner, Barren Fahrner; great grandchild, Remy Bond. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Gene Schenewerk, Edgar “Jake” Schenewerk, Norma Lee Bemboom, Alice Ann Bernskoetter, and Donnie Schenewerk, as well as his wife of thirty years, Barbara A. Schenewerk (passed October 17, 2005).

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that expressions of sympathy be made to The Wounded Warriors, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Oasis United Church of Christ. His kids would treasure a note with your best Larry story; there will be a table at the service with pens & paper for this.

Friends received from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 8, 2024 at Houser-Millard Funeral Director’s. A funeral service followed at 7 p.m.

There will be a second service on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Bona Church of Christ in Aldrich, Missouri.
