Charles Don Adams
Charles Don Adams, age 90 of Greenfield, Missouri, passed away at 10:35 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2024. He was at home surrounded by his family and that was the way he wanted to go.
He was born in Ventura, California, on December 29, 1933 to Ulla Franklin Adams and Virginia Esther (Campbell) Adams. The family moved back and forth but settled in Missouri for good before Don started high school.
He graduated from Dadeville High School in 1951 where he met Lola Jean Cooper. They added two sons to this union, Charles Michael and Winton Lane.
Don and Jean celebrated over 71 years of a happily married life and were fortunate to take a lot of vacation trips together leaving great memories.
When the boys were small, he took a job with Rock Island Oil Company of Kansas. He worked for them over 10 years in Kansas, North Dakota, and one summer in Alberta, Canada. Don and Jean did not want to stay in North Dakota or leave their boys there, returning home to Greenfield where both boys graduated from Greenfield High School.
Don then went to work for the Boilermakers Local #83 out of Kansas City, Missouri. After 25 years, he retired at the age of 60.
Don was baptized into Christ at the Allison Street Church of Christ here in Greenfield where he worked faithfully for many years. At the time he passed on, he was a member of the First Christian Church of Greenfield.
Don was among the first members of the Dade County Men’s Civic Club, belonged to the Washington Lodge #87 A.F. & A.M., and played in the Senior Men’s Golf League at Lockwood for years after his retirement. He was church secretary, lodge secretary, and civic club secretary all at the same time. With golfing and fishing, he jokingly said he didn’t know how he ever had time to work. Don was Greenfield Area Citizen of the year in 2008.
He was a loving husband, Dad, and Grandpa. Don loved to see the family come driving in. He liked to go fishing and golfing with his sons and grandchildren. Don was a good mechanic and welder, and liked to do that in the shop with the boys. Riding his motorcycle was a joy.
He is survived by his wife, Jean, of the home; two sons, Charlie and wife Janna of Willard, Missouri, and Winton and wife, Janie, of Lockwood, Missouri; five grandchildren: Zach Adams and wife, Angelin, of Springfield, Missouri; Molly (Adams) Jackson and husband, Johnathan, of Springfield, Missouri; Chris Adams of Golden City, Missouri; Lexi (Adams) Matthews and husband, Pete, of Memphis, Tennessee; and Jasmin Adams of Springfield, Missouri; seven great-grandchildren: Kaelin, Kyler, and Kolson Adams of Springfield, Missouri; James and Sadie Jackson of Springfield, Missouri; and Aidan and Allison Adams of Golden City, Missouri; three step-grandchildren: Johnathan, Tabitha, and Brandon Jackson; one brother, Allan Adams and wife, Joyce, of Jasper, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Donna Dodd and husband, Darrell, of Dadeville, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
