James A. Baker
James A. Baker, 94, of Ash Grove, passed away, Monday, November 7, 2022. He was born on January 20, 1928, in Ash Grove, MO to Clifford and Edna (Daniel) Baker. On April 22, 1950, James and Barbara Ellen Brown were united in marriage. They shared over 69 years together before Barbara’s passing in 2019.
James was born on a farm on Highway V, near Ash Grove, and lived within 2 miles of his birthplace all his life, except a short time while he worked in Kansas City. He served as the warden of the Greene County jail and was a proud beef and dairy farmer. James’ hobby was working, he loved to be busy. He loved growing a big garden and loved reading and watching westerns, fishing, and taking care of his cattle. James never met a stranger and was a caring friend and a good neighbor. If anyone needed something, he was there. James loved his family and was proud there wasn’t a dud in the bunch.
James is survived by his children, James (Rickey) Baker and wife Carmen of Greenfield, Robbie Hollis and husband Dennis of TX, Bobbie Wycuff of Ash Grove, Rebecca Anderson and husband Richard of Ash Grove, Brenda McPhail and husband Tim of Republic; 16 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Erma Chilcutt; nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and many friends.
James was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara; grandchild, Ashley Ellen Anderson; great grandchildren, McKinley Rae Deken, Halle Marie Baker, Skyler Baker, and Darrell Gott.
Visitation will be from 1:00PM-2:00PM, Friday, November 11, 2022, at Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home, Ash Grove, MO. Funeral Services will begin at 2:00PM, Friday, November 11, 2022, at the funeral home with burial to follow at Ash Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to The Walnut Grove FFA Chapter and may be left at the funeral home.
The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful care givers that helped and loved for James.
