Mary Genora Dodson Strange
Mary Genora, 98, passed away the afternoon of Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Twin Oaks Assisted Living in Lansing, Kansas, surrounded by loving family members after a lengthy illness. She was born in Morgan Township, Dade County, Missouri
She was married in 1941 to CSM Shirley F. Strange U.S. Army for a union that lasted 59 years until his death. Stationed at multiple duty stations across the United States, as well as, France and Germany; when unable to travel as a family with CSM Strange, they would return to Dadeville, Missouri, and the support of family and friends until they were reunited again.
Five children were born during these years: Kay S. Marx (Jim), Patricia Sue Chapman (Rick), Mary Jean Sholander (Joe), David Edward Strange (Marla) and Scott Anthony Strange (Mary).
She raised many an orphan bucket-calf, was a renowned cook and a wonderful seamstress having pieced many magnificent quilts, as well as crocheted many beautiful afghans.
She is known as “Granny” by 12 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; and is known as “Aunt Joie” to numerous nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed.
Mary Genora was preceded in death by her husband Shirley; her son, Scott; her brother, Johnny Dodson; her sister, Ida Dodson Brewer; and is survived by her four children and two brothers, Buddy K. and Billy E. Dodson of Dadeville, Missouri; and a sister-in-law, Georgia L. Dodson of Walnut Grove, Missouri.
Internment will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS 66048, on Thursday, February 17, 2022, with a graveside service for family only.
