Firefighters from Greenfield, Dadeville and Everton responded to a structure fire near the Jerry and Jacque Barnes residence at 1080 N. Dade 181, near Cane Hill, shortly after noon Monday.

The Barneses were not home when a large wood working and machine shop near the home began burning.

Steve Kenney, a nearby neighbor, discovered the blaze and called for help and was able to move a tractor and pickup to safety.

The shop was loaded with wood working machinery, lumber and reclaimed barn wood for making furniture, tools of all kinds, and hundreds of small plants ready to move to their greenhouse.

Firefighters were able to save the home with only minor damage from the burning shop.

A big thank you to all the firefighters, neighbors and friends for your help. It was greatly appreciated.
