Bouldin Recognized for Heroism
The Lockwood Fire Protection District recently recognized Kaleb Bouldin with an “Award of Valor” for his efforts in rescuing a woman from her Lockwood home after it caught fire on March 1.
Bouldin was walking home from a trip to the store when he saw smoke coming from the structure. The young man said he knew the resident and that they were likely still inside.
“I’m not a superhero, but when I saw that the house was on fire, I had to jump in and save her,” said Bouldin. “I just saw the fire and smoke and had to do something.”
Firefighting crews from Lockwood and Greenfield both ended up responding to the fire, which heavily damaged the house. Lockwood Asst. Fire Chief Junior Moenning said Bouldin’s quick-thinking and brave actions very likely saved the resident’s life. The individual is reportedly now out of the hospital and recovering with relatives.
“What you did was very brave, and we want you to know how much we appreciate it,” Fire Chief Greg Allen told Bouldin as he was presented the plaque.
“I’m no hero, I’m just here to help you guys when I can,” said Bouldin. “One thing I want to say is: just keep on moving forward and find something to fight for - God will be with you always.”
