Skyler James Baker

Skyler James Baker was born February 24, 1996 and passed April 29, 2021 at the young age of 25. He was born in Springfield, Missouri, to Terry Hohensee and Jackie Baker.

Skyler lived most of his life in Willard, Missouri, where he attended Willard School and was an outstanding basketball player.

After graduating, he attended college at Baptist Bible College in Springfield, majoring in elementary education while he played as a forward on the college basketball team. After college, Skyler worked mainly with his dad in the family tree service business and was also a care giver to adults with special needs.

On November 23, 2018, the love of Skyler’s life arrived as a baby boy, Beckham James Baker. Skyler and Maddie McIntire embraced being new parents. Skyler was an excellent father and took care of Beckham constantly. You saw one, you saw them both. Beckham was the spitting image of his daddy. Skyler had Beckham shooting baskets at 18 months and they were the joy of each others lives. Skyler made life long friends thru playing ball and they were a close knit bunch of guys who all looked after each other into adulthood.

Skyler was preceded in death by his brother, Darrell Gott Jr. on July 2, 2020; his beloved Nana, Janet Baker; great-grandmother Barbara Baker; great-grandparents Melvin and Frances Pinkman; and Uncle Jeff of Tennessee.

Skyler is survived by his son, Beckham and Beckham’s mom, Maddie McIntire; his parents, Jackie Baker and Terry and Jennifer Hohensee; sisters Olivia Hohensee and Samantha Gott; grandparents: Rick and Carmen Baker, Deborah Pinegar, Kay Lewis and Tom and Lynn Deckard; great-grandfather Jim Baker; and aunts and uncles: James, Jay, Logan and Stormy Baker, Lori, Ron, Kelli and Andy; special life time friends: Cainen, Levi, Kaleb, Chris, Montana, Trayton, Z and Mac. Skyler has a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and mentors,. too many to name, but you know who you are.

A celebration of life was held Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Brookline Church of Christ

Private graveside services were held Friday, May 14, 2021.
