Jacqueline (Jackie) Kelley Brittain

Jacqueline (Jackie) Kelley Brittain fell asleep in the Lord on February 26, 2021 at age 96. She is survived by her daughter Marquita Morris, son Charles Brittain, grandson Jim Morris with wife Olivia, and great grandchildren Millie and Wally. She was predeceased by her parents Walter and Mildred Kelley, her husband Charles Brittain, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jackie was born on February 11, 1925 in Lockwood, Missouri. Her mother was a schoolteacher, and her father was a farmer, she was their only child. She contracted polio as an infant and struggled with many challenges due to the disease. Not expected to walk, Jackie overcame odds through multiple surgeries and stays in the Shriner Hospital. Because of their fine care, her parent’s encouragement and her determination, she was able to walk throughout her life. She grew up on a farm and did not let her disease stop her. She loved all the animals, rode horseback and played outside with her cousins during her youth. She graduated from Lockwood High School. She moved to the Washington DC area when she was 18 years old where she got married and took a position at The Department of the Navy. She would return to Lockwood, Missouri regularly to visit family. She resided in Falls Church Virginia until her death.

She worked at John Marshall High School and retired from Montgomery Wards, working as an Office manager in the HR department. She was instrumental in ensuring equal education for the disabled in Fairfax County Public Schools over 60 years ago.

In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Jackie also loved Jesus with all her heart. Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her.

Due to current COVID-19 issues, a memorial service will be held in Falls Church, Virginia for friends and family over the summer, with a burial in Lockwood, Missouri to follow.
