Yvonne Marilyn Dodd

March 03, 2021

Yvonne Marilyn Dodd, 83, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on February 19, 2021 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas after a courageous battle against an unexpected, aggressive case of cancer.

Yvonne was born on February 10, 1938 in Crookston, Minnesota, to Albert and Ann (Nomland) Hince.

Yvonne married Richard Herman Dodd on December 26, 1956 and they shared 64 happy and prosperous years of marriage together. Yvonne was preceded in death by her loving son Randal in December 2008 and is survived by her husband, daughter, six granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.

After moving from Minnesota in her primary school years, Yvonne grew up on the sandy beaches of California. While always a Cali girl at heart, Yvonne and Richard moved to Great Bend, Kansas in 1970 to raise their family until they landed at their dream home on 60 acres on a farm outside Springfield, Missouri in 1978.

After raising her children, Yvonne went back to school to earn her associate degree in nursing from Barton County College and continued working until she retired at age 70.

When she was not working, Yvonne loved to be outside building her backyard oasis with help from her husband that boasted various hostas, flowers, and trees as well as an extensive vegetable garden. One of their favorite pastimes as a couple was canning each season that yielded seemingly endless jars of tomatoes, salsa, pickles, jam, and more.

Yvonne was a woman of many creative talents, primarily sewing and embroidery, but there was no craft skill that Yvonne could not conquer with ease. She used her talents to bless her loved ones with thoughtful handmade gifts that will be cherished forever as she left a piece of her heart in every tea towel, Christmas stocking, and cross-stitch she created.

Yvonne’s generous love and spirit will be immeasurably missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband Richard Dodd, daughter Robyn (Randy) James, daughter-in-law Diane Dodd, her granddaughters - Katie (Clarke) Fry, Kara (Chris) Day, Kylie James, Erin Dodd, Sarah Dodd and Jennifer Dodd, and great-grandchildren - Jameson Heule, Archer Herrick and Pierson and Juliette Fry.
